We have a number of years of experience running softcover yearbooks (unfortunately, we do not offer hardcover) and understand the unique challenges created by the need for timely delivery. Glossary:
  • Saddle Stitching: A method of binding where the book is printed on double wide paper, folded in half and stapled with two staples.
  • Perfect Binding:This type of binding uses a hot melt glue across the entire binding edge and a square, printable spine is formed. Most paperback novels are Perfect Bound.
  • Coil Binding: All sheets have 44 holes (on 11 inch tall paper) punched into them and a black plastic coil is then spun into the book. Good binding if you want the book to lay flat.
  • UV Coating: A process where a liquid chemical is applied to the exterior side of heavy-weight covers and then subjected to UV Light. The UV Light causes the liquid to turn solid and clear, similar to a film laminate on one side.
Suggestions:
If we may take a moment more of your time, we would like to offer some suggestions for the best quality yearbooks possible.
  • Use a heavier cover, we suggest 100# Gloss Cover.
  • UV Coating, it costs a bit more, but it looks great and "toughens up" the cover for better longitivity.
  • For Contents Paper, we suggest either the 80# Gloss Text or the 100# Gloss Text (80# if you have more than 48 pages).
  • Stay away from Matte paper, it picks up dirt too easily. If you don't want gloss, use the Bond or Text papers instead.
  • Perfect Binding is a bit more costly, but will hold up better than Saddle Stitching and you can print on the spine of the book
